TSM 226 — forever rose

We meet here every Tuesday morning at Rosie’s cafe, to sip coffee and converse about what’s happened since last week. It’s ordinary things we talk about, like what our kids have been up to, yard work planned and/or completed, what chapter we’re on in our current books, what episode on our current series.

We’ve filled each Tuesday morning with each other in our calendars for over twenty-five years. You’re married. I’m single again these last five years. You know how I feel. You may feel the same way. Yet neither of us chooses to examine the blushing blossom on the thick sturdy stem too closely. It remains in suspended animation, even as its fragrance perfumes the air.

Carrie is the host of The Sunday Muse.

  1. I guess it must be a pretty good recurring conversation that keeps them from paying attention to the blushing blossom. I have to admit this could be me. I’m not the best observer. The thing I’m wondering is, if that blushing blossom is there every Tuesday, it’s probably fake. Could that be the reason why they don’t pay attention to it?

Our Driveway Drinkers has met every Friday (give or take several due to impossible weather) since April 2020. I often wonder how much of ourselves is shared. I know full well much of myself they do not know, nor will they ever.
Your prose is insightful, just like you, Lisa.

Your confidences have deteriorated since becoming singe. Importance also of privateness is almost a secret, parts are. I don’t know if this is you or your here, but being single loses some joys, I was for three years. I called it having three years of freedom.

Well, I adore a mystery myself. And I often find that reality is a great bubble burster. Like things are better in our imagination/musings than real life sometimes….? It doesn’t stop me from feeling the longing. I remember that longing. It can be intense, almost too much so, when unresolved, but what sweet torture……..! Props to your vivid poetic intensity, Li.

This felt so authentic. It reads like a true love story, secretive, with its own rules. A great interpretation of the image. Really thought-provoking. It raises so many interesting questions for me. Like, if that relationship has lasted so long, surely it’s successful too even though it’s clandestine? Because the heart wants what the heart wants. And it’s amazing how many people do this, you know! It never fails to surprise me (not me, I hasten to add!) :-)
