Jethro Tull (2003)

The Jethro Tull Christmas Album is the 21st studio album released by Jethro Tull, on September 30, 2003. As of 2019, it is the band’s most recently released studio album.

Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow is the song I chose from this album.

Through long December nights we talk in words of rain or snow
While you, through chattering teeth, reply and curse us as you go.
Why not spare a thought this day for those who have no flame
To warm their bones at Christmas time?
Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow.

Now as the last broad oak leaf falls, we beg: consider this —
There’s some who have no coin to save for turkey, wine or gifts.
No children’s laughter round the fire, no family left to know.
So lend a warm and a helping hand —
Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow.

As holly pricks and ivy clings,
Your fate is none too clear.
The Lord may find you wanting, let your good fortune disappear.
All homely comforts blown away and all that’s left to show
Is to share your joy at Christmas time
With Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow.

Through long December nights we talk in words of rain or snow
While you, through chattering teeth, reply and curse us as you go.
Why not spare a thought this day for those who have no flame
To warm their bones at Christmas time?
Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow.

Thanks Jim. It’s sunny and the snow is all gone, so it may be a summery Christmas!

They are one of a kind… like Dave said the other day… who builds their band around a flute?
I’m surprised also… they have a big following.

  4. It’s funny I have this kind-of preconception of Jethro Tull, who were before my time, but this was not at all it. Great choice.

Jethro Tull rocked my world back then. They didn’t get a huge amount of radio play except for their big hits, but I was given an 8-track of Aqualung (lol) and that was it for me. Glad you enjoyed the song. One of Jethro Tull’s hallmarks is social commentary.

  8. Good tune, Lisa. I had forgotten about JT’s Christmas album. Also, there’s actually a Jan 2022 JT album, “The Zealot Gene,” though one could call it an Ian Anderson effort released under the Tull name. That said, it not bad.😀

I reviewed it at the time: https://christiansmusicmusings.wordpress.com/2022/02/01/jethro-tull-release-first-new-album-in-more-than-20-years/

I posted it back during A2Z (I think) I’m going through old Christmas posts for this week (you inspired me to do some holiday posts.) There is one more Tull song on the horizon. Glad you liked this one. Yes very atmospheric album cover.
