#FF — Best Woman

I assess my image in the mirror as Layla stands behind me, adjusting my hair accessories. My eyes travel up to one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever known. For a moment I feel I’m dreaming. How can this be?

I check the time.

We have five minutes, Layla. I look great.”

The march begins. We step-by-step down the aisle, arm in arm, as guests’ happy murmurs hum us forward. The official smiles as Layla hands me off to her brother, Doug, my soon-to-be husband.

With the sunshine, through stained glass, angels descend to bless our union.

There’s a story behind these simple lines, a future sister in law walking her up, the aisle. I’m going to believe it’s not a sad story.

It’s not a sad story, Clare. I tried to put a twist in there. This is the happiest day of her life ❤

Thank you! I like how some of the marital traditions have been modified to fit the times. Who says a man has to give away “his property” to another man? “The times, they are a-changin’. “

  8. Dear Lisa,

When my daughter in law’s twin sister married it was my DIL who gave her away in place of their father who had recently passed. Very sweet story.

    Shalom,
