Kerfe’s RWG 4 — Basking

Copperhead | snake | BritannicaCopperhead snake

Mid-morning, a-stupored, I walked to the patio
sipping hot cuppajoe in fuzzy bunny slippers.
Plopping down in a wrought iron chair, I spied
a copper snake wound round umbrella stem;
like a glove she was. I raised her head; she
put out a forked thread tongue to sniff my tangy
unwashed scent. I begged her pardon, and she,
with subdued grace, lowered her bean, yielding
assent, believing two could luxuriate in today’s
warm, bejeweled sun.

Kerfe posted her chart of words from the random word generator, and when I saw copper I immediately thought of the D.H.Lawrence poem, “Snake” that I shared in the dVerse prompt last week (don’t ask me how my mind works, but it did.) I also give a nod of thanks to Alexandra‘s style of poetry, which I have grown to admire so much over time.

      I like the way you see it, Punam. Think how far the world would be if each would look beyond the fear of the labels <3

    Li, no worries. You don’t even have to respond! I don’t want to beat a dead horse (not your story; just the stuff revolving around the story, lol).

  7. According to the link to Britannica you included, “Many snakebites by it have been reported, but the venom of this snake is relatively weak and rarely fatal.” That’s very reassuring, you might actually live! :-)

      I remember you don’t like snakes and understand why you would. I think this snake was just happy for the sun’s warmth. And the copperhead was also ;)
