I love the apple blossoms!
Does burning the ground like that make it more fertile?

There are so many blossoms on the apple trees but barely any on the pear tree. Not sure what determines the # of blossoms. Burning the ground kills the weeds and such that were going to go crazy on that hill like they do every year. Plus I wanted to get rid of the mountain of pine needles. A friend told me they sour the soil. I will turn the ash under and I think it adds nitrogen to the soil but not positive.

I’ve heard of farmers burning land….and not just clearing land. I can imagine that ashes would help. I’m going to look that up.

Let me know what you find out. I know it clears the way for growing other things than what is growing on the space. I need the hill for sunflowers and squash and probably some tomatoes. No other space for all of those plants I have.

Agricultural burning helps farmers remove crop residues left in the field after harvesting grains, such as hay and rice. Farmers also use agricultural burning for removal of orchard and vineyard prunings and trees. Burning also helps remove weeds, prevent disease and control pests.

I never thought of this;
It returns nutrients to the soil in the ashes of vegetation that could otherwise take years to decompose. And after a fire, the additional sunlight and open space in a forest can help young trees and other plants start to grow

I have a huge brush pile out back that I put almost everything on and it does break down over time, but in the case of the pine needles I didn’t want them souring the soil. I think they already have under them. A friend told me to put lime on that area to help it so I bought some lime today. We’ll see what happens :)
