Another bike ride today.  I had delusions of fitness in thinking I could ride from Kirk Park to Tunnel Park (11+ miles one way) and only made it about half that far.  The path was full of up and down large hills/dunes.  It was nice to get out on a new trail.  The weather was on the cooler side (about 61F) which was perfect and a breeze that varied from slight to a little more than slight.  The scariest part was riding over a bridge on the narrow shoulder of the road which I didn’t know about but I made it.  Very beautiful ride on a very beautiful day.

  2. Your area looks beautiful, Lisa. Even though you “only” did half of what you had planned, it still sounds like a solid ride to me!

Ottawa County, which is about 20 miles south of here, has some fantastic bike trails. This one is full of hills and was a real workout. Over 11 miles is victory on it! I did just read in the fb group that a woman did 40 miles on it yesterday. She’s got to be REALLY fit or have an e-bike, (which I’m sadly seeing more and more of out there.) Am I wrong for being irritated by e-bikes?

      1. I would say e-bikes are a good option for elderly folks or others who for health reasons shouldn’t work too hard but still want to enjoy riding a bike.

My understanding is you still have to do some pedaling, correct? The difference to a regular bike is you’re getting some help by a small electric engine.

I think you can choose to pedal as much or little as you want to. I’ve seen people pedaling a little and some not at all. What I don’t like is when they get reckless and come whipping around corners at high speeds.

          1. I hear you and agree! Reckless is never good, no matter what activity you do, especially when you’re around other people who could get hurt!

Last Oct when we did our Halloween ride there were kids (teens) on e-skateboards weaving recklessly between bikers, walkers, baby strollers, etc and it scared the heck out of me. Later down the path one had wiped out and was laid out on the pavement. It’s always the bad eggs that spoil it for everyone.

              1. That’s unfortunate. Many teens think they’re invincible. I did a few silly things myself but nothing I would call reckless. Perhaps it’s also nebulous memories of things I’m not exactly proud of!

Oh I did too, Christian. It’s when they endanger so many others that I get somewhat riled up about.

I’m working on household stuff today but Monday I’ll go out and look and see what it needs. While Jen is working next week I may ride some until Thursday. We are heading off to a Casino…excuse me if I told you before….we have never been to one…and I’m not a gambling person but we thought it would be fun.

Sounds like a good plan. Casinos are fun places to visit if you have a little fun money to spend. I’ve gone a very limited # of times and want to keep it that way. No you didn’t tell me before. If you get out on the bike take some pics OK?

This looks good Li. Up and down is way more taxing than straight run.

Thank you, Sadje. I don’t mind some smaller hills, but this was something else. There was a lot of what I call “fuzzy caterpillars” that the oak trees had dropped also, which made me afraid I would slip on going down the steeper hills so I couldn’t even benefit from the coasts down. Also had to walk my bike up 2 of them as it was too much to ride up them. A good workout altogether. Luckily it was a cooler day and quite a bit of shade and some wind so it all worked out.

A beautiful ride indeed. I hate the narrow shoulder when riding. But to get to the calmer roads in low-traffic residential areas, I still have to go along the main roads. My bike seat is also so hard.😭

Glad you enjoyed the ride through my pics. Up until a couple of years ago, I did the same to get to the bike paths, but now I have a bike carrier on my car and drive to the paths. More expensive but much safer. YOU NEED TO INVEST IN A NEW SEAT! I also had a shock installed under my seat so I bounce over the bumps 🙂

Haha, yeah a new seat is such a simple effective solution. Damn procrastination
