dVerse — MTB — Trust and Faith

Tuesday morning’s opened windows’ chill brushed
crost my cheek. A sigh released, relieved heat
waved its way to scorch with oven gasped hush
other hamlets; tender drum rains now beat.

Wednesday night as shades are drawn a cold tale
told as shawl weaves shadows round the moon’s glow
Summer came too soon. Spring threw off its veil,
blushed, and turned around; begged the drought to go.

Thursday noon the clouds danced in the sky while
daisies swayed with grass, tall in unmown fields.
Back to wearing pants, I pulled new weeds, smiled;
soil undust again, grounded with new root shields.

Friday crows with peace; seasons back in place,
baby critters follow, soft breathe, and grow.
Devil mask of doom forgot for today,
mourning doves can coo again; sun slips low.

Trust in mother’s wisdom, in her balance;
faith, despite days of wrath, comfort’s valance.

Björn is today’s host of dVerse’ Meet the Bar.   Björn says:
Write a heroic sonnet.  The heroic sonnet is a poem that essentially has 4 alternatively rhymed quatrains (a/b/a/b c/d/c/d e/f/e/f g/h/g/h i/i) and a rhymed couplet. It has no designated arrival of the volta (but it may actually have more than one) but the concluding couplet should summarize the message. As was usual (or perhaps natural) a sonnet in this model should be written in iambic pentameter.

    Very nicely done Lisa. I think Mother Earth is living with a disfunctional family which creates an unsettled environment!

      Thank you, Dwight. I think we are being attacked by so many people/places/things and we attack so many precious gifts that it is difficult to find peace in the midst of it. Faith is what I cling to.

    Love the unique weekday gifts from nature, from the chill to the summer heat to peace. The weather here has been unpredictable but I love it when it rains and then we get summer heat. A balance from mother nature is good.

    Mother nature and I are on the outs since she brought the flying ants, but at least we’re finally getting some rain. I agree that summer came too soon.

    I like the progression from Tuesday to Friday, Lisa, the personification of Summer and Spring in the second stanza, and the image of the clouds dancing in the sky. My favourite phrase is ‘Friday crows with peace’.

  6. What vivid imagery, Lisa! Four days of the week, a different aspect of nature in each. This was a very clever way to use this form of poetry.
