dVerse — Q180 — We’re Swimming

collage swimming 20.. (2)

Creeping beastie any form
be it slipping ‘neath a door
swirling ‘round as morning fog
drifting in as morphing cloud
sinking bullets drenching rain
chilly slides sheets of ice
dainty fluff crystal snow
constitutes each bag of bones
swimming in it our water home

De aka WhimyGizmo is today’s host for dVerse’ Quadrille Monday.  De says:
Pen us a poem of exactly 44 words, including some form of the word water, and post the poem on your own blog with a link back to this post. Link your poem up using the Mr. Linky below. Then make your way around the web to visit the waterways other poets have shared. Remember: the Quadrille is open all week, so be sure to float on back here to read – and write!- some more.

Thank you, De. I tried using a pre-formatted block this time and with a few tweaks it worked.

  2. Lisa, this is fabulous. What block did you use to get the two columns? This poem flows like water…

Thanks so much, Colleen. I tried the “pre-formatted” block. It did NOT show up as I plugged it in, but with tweaks on 2 of the lines, it finally lined up correctly.

      1. How interesting! I’ve not tried the “pre-formatted block. This is a wonderful form.

It’s a quadrille but also a cleave poem per Melissa :) It takes a few saves and previews until it looks right but worth the effort I think at least once in awhile ;)

          1. The cleave poem is excellent. I read it in many ways and it still flows…

This is beautifully rendered, Lisa <3

It may be, but it is 44 words and a quadrille first ;)

Susan, funny you should mention tears. I wrote before this one and it had tears:

      Michigan Summer 2023

      There’s no wine to drink,
      tears to cry,
      joy to hymn,
      clouds in sky
      without water.

Bowl of sand instead of lake,
      no birds can bathe,
      no fish can swim;
      instead, a grave.

      As the sun dries,
      as hot winds blow
      life becomes dust.

Great job on you poem, Lisa. I like the collage as well. I frequently wonder how we are going to sustain the amount of water needed as populations continue to grow exponentially!?

Dwight, I wonder that same thing, especially in desert areas! Our Great Lakes are always in danger. I remember them trying to divert one a few years ago!

They tried. I believe there is a “league of great lakes states” (forgot the official title) and all must agree on any decisions made about the great lakes. I believe Canadian province(s) involved also.
