TankaTuesday 335 — Honeymoon’s Postures

TT 082923

Eugène Manet on the Isle of Wight (1875) by Berthe Morisot

As you freshen up,
I wait, gaze upon
two proper ladies;
ruffled white blossoms,
flushed with salty air,
stare, hungry robins.
Gull’s cry breaks the spell;
guilt flops and lodges.

Where for tea?” you ask.
Startled, I turn to meet
your sparkling blue eyes.
Snuggle first, perhaps?
I wink, grasp your hand.
Love, afternoon’s task,
writhes us like otters;
honeymoon’s postures.

Octameter form

Reading a little about the painting, the artist married artist Manet’s brother and this painting was taken when she and her husband were on their honeymoon. I wrote this from Eugene’s perspective.

Colleen Chesebro is the host of Tanka Tuesday.  Colleen says:
🍃 This week, using the painting as your inspiration, please write either a syllabic poetry form or a freestyle poem, including a syllabic form (both on the same post). 🍃

  7. How lovely, Lisa. You captured the moment so well. Interesting back history of the painting as well. I love how you made his casual glance part of the painting. This is really excellent!
