Tomatoes, peppers, dawn redwood, oh my

It’s been a little bit since posting pics of the produce.  These were taken yesterday.  That bowl is about a foot across, and without weighing it, I am guessing full it weighs between 5-10#.  This is the 3rd big bowl of tomatoes harvested from the plants so far and it looks like there will be one more before the end of the season.  When I think about it, 20-40# of tomatoes grown from one packet of seeds, it is miraculous and encouraging.  Our Creator has given us more than enough to survive.  All the creator asks is that we treat our homes with honor and respect.

The four dawn redwood seedlings that survive are doing well.  It took them a minute to recover from being transplanted, but they’ve done so well, especially in this long hot summer.  I will pull them into the mini-greenhouse over the winter, where it stays cold, but they are protected.

I also took at walk along the witch hazel border today.  ALL ten plants are doing well.

MoMo and me are growing a Desert Willow from seeds obtained from one in the Barnes and Noble parking lot. It’s about 8 inches tall and I plan to transfer it to a 1 gallon pot next week. It’s too darn hot in Texas to plant anything. 105-110 today through the weekend. I’ve lost many of my established plants to the heat. Hope you have a great harvest and enjoy those yummy tomatoes.

K, they are tiny miracles. I got the tomatoes blanched and cut up tonight and will work on pints of salsa tomorrow.

You will be well stocked for winter. I remember my grandmother’s basement…full of ball jars.

You know, Max, I thought it was a mistake when I put that one planter so it would be blocked by the carport for half the day, but it turned out to be a plus :)

With the heat yes….I can see that. You hit the lottery in tomatoes this year!

It’s been a fun experience seeing them grow. I found several zucchini today on plants that I thought were dead! It rained last night so maybe a few more will grow now. Thank you <3

What a wonderful sight! My garden was not quite prolific this year. I had lots of trouble and got minimal tomatoes but nice eggplants and lots of hot peppers so not all is lost!

Happy for your success in the garden. Don’t you think home-grown from seeds you planted and watched grow until they fruited is one of the most satisfying experiences? I’m about to can some more salsa if I can just get myself into gear.

I would like to, maybe next year, keep seeds of successful growth to reseed. This year’s crop is not up to par. Tomorrow is another big day. Another batch of tomato paste (so NOT what you find in cans!), some tomato sauce, Italian antipasto, pickles….

Those were from 2 summers ago. I got a lot of good eating out of them. This year lots of blossoms but so far no tomatoes. Maybe it’s the heat…
