POPO2023 Day 3

3 Brad Case Seurat The Gardener 1883 1884

Laundry piled too tall
a load is on final spin.
Too humid for the dryer
so old-fashioned me
hangs them (inside)
on the clothesline.

  1. The clothesline…the greatest use of solar and wind power! Minimal infrastructure cost, low maintenance. (At least if you can hang outside.)

I 100% agree, Steve. I have 2 lines hanging inside in the atrium and it works like a charm year-round.

      1. My mom used to hang clothes outside even in the winter. They’d freeze overnight and she’d shake out the ice in the morning so they’d dry faster when the sun came back. (I use the basement in the winter.)

That’s funny about your mom; good thinking on her part.

I did. Sometimes I just lose momentum and things slide…

I remember helping my mother hang up and take down the clothes on the clothesline. I understand some community associations now ban the practice–crazy! (K)

I remember with grandma and with mom. It was just the way it was done back then, I think. It *is* crazy to ban something this wholesome. I remember reading something a couple of years ago how they were banning people collecting water in rainbarrels. Like the government owns the rain falling from the sky!?

I know, I would never live in a place with a housing association. All they care about is appearances and how it might affect their housing value. Why would a clothesline or a rain barrel make your house less valuable?

Maybe you use less electricity and buy less water? You know it’s all about the $$.

Older son came over today and found a solution to his apartment laundry problem. They have 10 units in his building and 2 washing machines and one decrepit dryer. He read about a hack where dehumidifier can dry clothes. He found one for half-price at Target and tried it out. Said his clothes were dried in 3 hours. Now how cool is that :)

Wow! That does make sense on paper but I wouldn’t have believed it…that is cool.

Very cool. My oldest son uses one in a closed room with a dehumidifier and said it dries clothes within a couple hours. He’s in an apartment with no washer or dryer.
