POPO2023 Day 12

12 Kristen Ryberg Seurat Alfalfa St. Denis 1885Georges Seurat, Alfalfa, St. Denis

It hasn’t rained in over six weeks.
Everything’s still green, but you can see
the grass is fading; some blades are tan.
Should I mow the grass? It’s tall.
Do I keep neighbors happy and grassocide?
Or say feck it and explain later?

In some places it’s not allowed to mow the grass.

In Switzerland! I don’t know why but Gary a blogger mentioned it on his blog

  2. We have a neighbor who during the growing season literally cuts his grass every other day. Sometimes you can also hear yelling going on inside their house. We think he may use the mowing as an excuse to get outside. Perhaps the vibration of the mower calms him down. Our maybe he’s just a lunatic on the grass, though he does seem to be fairly normal otherwise. Who knows… :-)

    Ah explain later!
One more mowing and it should be about it for this year.

Lawns are a strange phenomenon I think. My brother once turned his whole lawn into a garden which drove the neighbors crazy. But I find lawns to be off-putting–a garden would be way more preferable. (K)

I am ambivalent. Where I live the only way to keep things like poison ivy away is by mowing, but even with mowing it creeps in. One of the down sides of living in a rural area that nobody talks about. I’m thinking about laying that pile of bricks I have along the edges of the yard and see if it helps.

We have poison ivy in the city too. There’s no escape from it–and no getting rid of it either.

I’ve put some bricks flat along the house. The only thing I’ve seen make a dent in it is boiling water, and that just kills the leaves. We’ll see how it sprouts back in spring.

All my older brother had to do was be in its vicinity and he would break out–lots of calamine lotion. I never had a rash until adulthood, and it was mild. But it can be really awful.
