POPO2023 Day 16

16 Mary Beth Frezon Seurat The Circus 1890 91

(misidentified on the postcard) Georges Seurat, “Chahut”

First, a sour dinner experience; then,
a walk across the street to the symphony.
Full house, full stage, season finale.
Quantity is not quality.
Program’s long list of benefactors
smile, oblivious.
The conductor smiles bravely.

Thank you, Colleen. It played out just like that also (no pun intended lol.) Disadvantages of living in a small town include crappy restaurants that falsely rest on their rep (oh and it was extremely bad in many ways!) and not having the funds to attract first class orchestra musicians.

Tell me the truth, do I sound like a whiny baby in this poem?

OK cool, Max. I think I was just so disappointed, as I had high hopes for the evening.

Chahut–that’s a great title. The bad ones make the good ones sweeter. (K)

  5. Hm, this doesn’t exactly sound like a perfect evening – less than tasty food, followed by musical entertainment that seems to have fallen short as well. Well, I’d say both will make you appreciate delicious food and a great show even more the next time you hopefully experience both! :-)

I’m actually going to see Loreena McKennitt in Grand Rapids on the 29th and I know that will be a GREAT show!

      1. I don’t know Loreena McKennitt but just watched a bit of a clip on YouTube – reminds me a tiny bit of Irish singer-songwriter Enya. Though in addition to Celtic music, apparently, McKennitt’s music also has a Middle Eastern touch. Looks intriguing!

Have you watched this YouTube clip by any chance? Loreena seems to have a nice personality.

No, I haven’t, but it looks good. I’ve saved it to watch later. Thanks for the link!
