Moon fills my pumpkin
its glow is just right
wings of a blood bat
unfurl in the night.
When honey doth glow
midnight Halloween
jack-o-lantern smiles
with unholy schemes.
Where shines a pale neck
head of vampire bows
o’er warm frozen prey
I watch from shadows.
My stomach lurches,
my gasp makes a sound;
meal interrupted
his head swivels round.
Fight, flight, or freeze is
what I’ve been taught, but
defense from monsters?
My heart thumps, fraught
with terror!
Consumed by bloodlust
his neck swivels back to
her punctured pale flesh
cast bright in moonglow.
Finished with his meal
dry husk is dropped, he
chitters and poofs back
to crypt as a bat.
I rush to the husk
whose neck’s just been sipped.
Unpulsed, she must be dead;
but why are her nails
digging into my wrist!

That was fun. A lot of very creative rhyming in there. I especially liked the visual rhyme of bows and shadows.
