POPO2023 Day 27

27 Linda Crosfield Seurat Circus Sideshows 1887 88George Seurat, “Circus Sideshow”

Shadows’ dark treasures glimmer
far from light of day,
confined to damp caverns
of morbid lust;
where polite gentlemen slink,
to thrust their filthy minds,
swine before pearls.

    I love how you’ve played this, setting up the thought and then twisting it, especially love swine before pearls, made me think.

      Paul, I’m very glad it made you think. I feel that these individuals are forced underground by society and then the very ones who condemn them slink in to get their jollies by appreciating their differentness.

    You weren’t thinking of anyone in particular were you? Or are there too many to count at this point? Although I’m not sure the word polite is in their vocabulary… (k)

    Sorry I missed this one… oh that is pointed and vindictive…the painting is a bit eerie.

      It’s so different, along with a couple others, than the usual style he painted in. I think they were done towards the end of his life. Maybe he was trying to convey some illumination on a place and population that was forced to stay in the shadows in his time. Thank you for reading and giving the poem and image a closer look.
