Doodads — Day Before Halloween

Sunday night was the concert, which was wonderful.  The drive over to Grand Rapids and back was fine, even if I did lose my way a little on the way back.  (When you’re on Monroe and the directions say head towards Ottawa, but when you ask the attendant where it is he doesn’t say go right or left but that it’s behind the building, things can go awry.)  I know GR enough to recognize things and ways to get back even if they take a little longer.  We ended up going down Leonard (which we did about a month ago taking an alternative route back from Meijer Gardens after the big wind storm) until google maps told us to turn on Walker to get to 3 mile and that led us easily back to the highway.  Anyway…  the reason why I’m talking about the fairly eventless drive over and back is because we were lucky.  Yesterday (Monday) I was driving to get curbside grocery pickup when the tire started making funny noises.  Oh sh*t it’s a flat.  At the same time I knew there was a car repair shop about a mile ahead and so kept driving.  Pro tip:  when your tire goes flat, don’t keep driving on it.  The wheel was saved but the tire was shredded.

The gentleman at the auto repair place had to crawl under the car to unstick the melted tire from whatever that thing it attaches to is.  He put the donut on and refused any payment.  What a saint!  He asked I write him a review of the incident and I did.  He’s new at this location and what a great guy.

Rolled on to pickup groceries and just by chance there is a tire place across the street.  While waiting I called them and they said bring it on over after getting groceries; I did.  He found a decent tire in the database and said if he ordered it that day it could get here by tomorrow (Tuesday.)  I said I’d call him in the morning; I did.  The tire has been ordered.

You’re probably thinking what a boring post.  I don’t blame you lol.  Earlier yesterday, before the blowout, I saw some indecisive turkeys and filmed them.  The title of the video is “Will the Turkeys Cross the Road?”

Oh geez…sorry about the tire but you are lucky about the wheel. I tried that before and warped my wheel. Glad you didn’t and got it fixed.
    I liked the turkeys lol.

I knew it would probably ruin the tire but it was a bad place to pull the car over and wait for a tow, so I said fuggit. Costly choice but it’s done now. And I was really surprised they never crossed over. Just enough traffic to keep them cautious.

If you had to sacrifice one…the tire is the one to give up.
That guy…that is super what he did.

  4. I’m glad your tire incident ended well. That car mechanic who installed the donut surely sounds like a nice guy! I also like your turkey video. Reminds me a little bit of our two cats, which sometimes seemingly also have a hard time to decide what they want! :-)

Thanks, Christian. I wish that place sold tires as I’d order one from him. I can’t get the other place to answer the phone. Surely it is the storm that disrupted delivery and probably took their power too. The whole area has been affected. I was 100% sure the turkeys would cross, but I was wrong.

      1. Keeping fingers crossed your tire will get there soon and that the donut will work in the meantime. We don’t have snow in the 10-day forecast, which is fine with me, especially my upcoming family trip to Europe. That said, we have a freeze warning for this night.
