Last weekend older son and I drove over to Grand Rapids and met up with younger son, his wife, and my grandbaby at Blandford Nature Center to walk the trails and to visit the farm part of the property to see the goats and chickens and to check out the large community garden the place has. We also checked out a classroom area that has a very neat rock garden.
The grandbaby had on her owl Halloween costume. Blandford has several owls and other raptors they have rehabilitated but can not be released into the wild (along with a few other critters) and the grandbaby has grown very fond of owls. Instead of dolls she has stuffed owls. It’s only natural her costume would be what it is.
As we walked along the path, she spontaneously ran up to a tree and hugged it. My heart soared to see her do it. She has a keen appreciation of nature and that is due to my son and his wife who continually take her on literal field trips. I didn’t think to ask them at the time but afterwards wondered if hugging the tree was something they taught her. I asked them last night if they had and they said no, she takes the initiative and does it on her own.
My Friday Favorite is my granddaughter, who will be my favorite every Friday and every other day, for forever.
You might wonder where her face is. I had to blank it out, per no-pics sharing policy of my son and his wife, which I totally understand.

You need to frame that Lisa. It’s cool she does that on her own.

I appreciate that you respect their request to not show her face. My son and daughter in law posted baby photos to an invitation-only website for the family. As far as I know that child has no public internet presence. I show photos to friends but only on my own phone so they never have a copy that could end up public. (But if you go through my old posts, you can find me as a toddler.)

Thanks for the comment. Likewise I only show friends the pics on my phone and send them out only if her face is occluded. With what they can do with digital files anything is possible. I listened to Joe Biden give a whole speech/statement on Colbert the other night that they had created somehow.

Your grandbaby is adorable, Lisa, and I’m glad you got to spend some time with her and your young son and his wife! These are precious moments in life that truly matter. A lot of other stuff we worry about every day really don’t or do so much less. And I’m very much talking about myself here, btw. When dealing with the daily grind it’s easy to lose perspective!

Thank you, Christian. She is the light of my life. One thing she likes to do is spontaneously start singing songs she has made up herself. One day I started singing a made-up song and she came in with the harmony. No joke!
