As of today, I have received a postcard from almost every one of the 30 people on my list. That’s the best return rate by far of the three years of participation. Add in some bonus cards from Kerfe and Jules, and look at these beauties! The variety and formats, as in other years, have delighted and surprised me. Such creativity and artistic outpouring!
THANK YOU to everyone who sent a card. I’m humbled <3
As with the artwork, the poems were excellent and covered a wide range of topics. I took one line or phrase from every postcard that had a poem on it and created a cento poem. Please note that I moved one “s” in one line, shown with parentheses.
Easy enough to stash lies
My significant other is my shovel.
I make my way blind to the beauty
Imaginary moments real for a brief time
Oozing life each evening
It’s the biggest ticket in town
With courage let’s roar
Close together,
In touch with each other’s cycles
We stop for a toke and a pee
Summer has wilded me
Forays into the velocity
Of maternal sutures
Fountain, stone and clock
B followed A by the logic of time
But really wagged its own unruly tail
When something makes sense,
Its my body – not my head
My old street becomes new again
I follow the sun
Is it just around the bend?
Moth dancing with the porch light
Cricket song joins the crack of a baseball bat
The unique sound(s) that belong( )
Only to one thing
The banyan tree in the square so wide…
Mist now spackles leaves
Freshness unmarked
Until your finger pricks the thorn
I am alone to watch it twitch
Paper cup held just a gulp of cold coffee
The bridge is more troubled than the water
But where was the cat? Isn’t C always for cat?
Never show them how to shapeshift the between
But oh their eyes are dark and true
Creaky boned but replete with accomplishment
But there was something … a heartflash of connection
Merest slight of hand to send off words of life

I love this, Lisa. What fun!

Sadje, I got the idea at the fb page for the annual POPO, and saw others do it and liked what I saw. Thank you. It’s funny how the lines fell together to build stanzas.

I don’t even know how you put this together. Taking one line from each of these poems to make a new poem sounds like mission impossible to me! I wouldn’t know where to start. But I guess I also don’t know how to write poems in the first place! :-)

Christian, one step at a time. As Robert Schuler taught me, “Inch by inch anything’s a cinch.”

Postcards! This is so fun, a long time ago I joining a group of art postcards exchange, it was always great to find beauty in my mail box.
