Doodads — yard this weekend

resized sunset out back 20231208_171736

This had to be one of the most uneventful weekends of all time, which isn’t a bad thing.  Low-key in a global realm of increasing chaos is respite.  My only complaint is relentless grey cloud cover.  Looking out today, there were a few cloud partings with brief headlights of sun.  I see a bright cloud with patches of periwinkle right now, but that’s about it.  Sunsets have been pretty but all too brief; it’s been getting dark around 5pm and dawn doesn’t appear again until around 7am.

I know I talk about the birds, bird feeders, and squirrels but seldom show pics.  I decided to take a 9-minute plus video of them this weekend and add a little soundtrack.  (not sure where the chipmunks and doves were) Note:  you are under no obligation to watch all 9 minutes!  Video at the end.

Alexandra wrote about the robins still at her place near Chicago and knowing something is not right about the weather.  The dianthus in my yard didn’t get the memo about winter either.  I also noticed that one of the arnica plants has spring-like growth on it.

  1. An uneventful weekend isn’t a bad thing, especially if you had a hectic week. Your video and the accompanying pretty music are very relaxing. I watched the first few minutes. It’s time for me to hit the pillows! :-)

The week before wasn’t hectic either, like a staycay. This week a little bit busier. Heading to Meijer Gardens in a bit here to see my grandbaby :)

  3. I was just noticing that sunset seems to go on forever this time of year. The sun is low in the sky and hits you right in the face for what seems a long time – but then it is suddenly dark.

I watched all 9 minutes :) I enjoyed it, especially when the squirrel(s) kept popping up to see what was going on.

Yes, I thought the squirrel brought comic relief, as they often do :)

Nice to see how it’s going out in your yard. Birds are fun to watch, and that squirrel was so funny as he kept jumping up. :)

I was thinking probably the birds were knocking down seeds into the bucket, so he was taking advantage of that. haha :)

I like the video Lisa. Squirrels are such nervous creatures…and so quick and mischievous…the music was a nice touch.

We had a bird in our house this weekend. It came in on Saturday and our A frame doesn’t help…no way to get. Sunday I was on my computer and here it comes in my office room…I finally scared it out the window.

Thanks Max. What kind of bird was it? There are superstitions about birds entering a house, but not sure what they are. Glad the critter had sense to get to a place where you could let him/her out. I was telling my friend at lunch today about the prarie dogs and the guy with the shelter and how you want to get one. She’s a “squirrel freak” and was delighted to hear about them.

It was very small but not a hummingbird…I never got a good look at it because it was always flying away lol.
I still watch Ben on Urban Rescue Ranch…it’s my favorite of all of them…but I have found a couple with a prairie dog that I follow called Poppy. They are a cousin of the squirrel… not as nervous though.

Thanks, Someone. Color in the sky lately has been real scarce and so appreciated when it shows up.
