dVerse — Q192 — Blue’s Pink

pink bayou channel“Pink Bayou” by Stacey Strugatz

I languish a dark lagoon,
trapped in brackish waters,
a sand bar desert from love.
Gulls glide drafts and laugh
at jokes without punchlines.
Day fades to new moon tide
whispers and laps its way;
channel etched by dawn
to swim blue’s pink again.

Melissa is today’s host for dVerse’ Quadrille Monday.  Melissa wants us to write a 44-word quadrille form poem using the word lagoon.

I love the use of colour in your quadrille, Lisa, and the image you chose to illustrate it is perfect. These lines really took my fancy:
    ‘Gulls glide drafts and laugh
    at jokes without punchlines’
and the thought of swimming ‘blue’s pink again’.

I love this; my interpretation could be wrong of course but I see you at a deserted bar being served drinks by bar gulls – a totally flight of fancy from a kind of blue lagoon dream … 😊

  5. Lisa, your Quadrille beautifully captures the sense of languishing in a dark lagoon, trapped in brackish waters. The imagery of a sand bar desert from love, gulls gliding, and the transition from day to new moon tide is vivid and evocative… Beautiful!

I absolutely love “Gulls glide drafts and laugh
at jokes without punchlines.” I love the dreamy nature of your quadrille.

So poignant, “a sand bar desert from love” where the gulls “laugh at jokes without punchlines.” I really like that.

I love the juxtaposition the “laughing at jokes with no punchline” gives to the poem and scenery. The painting is gorgeous, as well, those clouds look like a dream.
