Don’t Pinch Me
In half spoon-curled,
nitelight soft-glowed,
mattress-warmed,
flannel-soothed,
vervain-sniffed
fluffy clouds
I face your
even-breathed,
solid presence.
Eyelashes droop
above cold nose,
waiting; my hand
rising and falling
on your chest.
In time
you turn
to scootch-reach
closer, low-growling.
Don’t pinch me if I’m dreaming.
De is today’s host for dVerse’ Quadrille Monday. De wants us to write a quadrille (exactly 44 words minus the title) using the word pinch. I kind of cheated by using so many hyphenated words…

What a wonderful dream.. no this would be something not to wake from.

Hyphenation’s not cheating, Lisa, it’s creative! I love the way you set the scene in the opening stanza, and ‘mattress-warmed, flannel-soothed’ reminded me it’s nearly time for bed.

I appreciate you saying that, Kim <3 As I used to tell my kids — and still do, when I get a chance — sweet dreams.

A perfectly dreamy combo of words and music here, Lisa. And…hyphens are there for the taking…they don’t mind “connecting” with us!

Your pooch has almost human qualities, Lisa. Even the growl!! :>)
Well done.

Dwight, sorry if I wasn’t being clear. That was no pooch. Thank you.

Oh, LOL, I though when he turned over and growled that it was a dog with you! Maybe humans are like dogs instead! :>)

Love the scootch-reaching (and the growling); makes my solo double bed feel rather puritanical … but I have a pinch of lavender under my pillow and am just going to snuggle into fragrance. Bedtime for me right now! Sweet dreams Lisa when the time comes for you x

:) Thanks, Alexandra. This one I started with the idea of don’t pinch me, I don’t want to wake up, and worked backwards.

I read the first line as moon-spurled…(can you tell I need some sleep?)–but it’s in the same spirit. A warmth we all could use. (K)

I love it and even more that we both wrote about some dream, but I’d really prefer yours and hence our last lines differ only in one wird “don’t”.
And I agree, I’d like to stay in that dream just a little longer!
