It’s sunny but chilly out there. When I went out to get the mail and fill one of the bird feeders, I decided to talk out back. The top pic shows some of the pinecones on one of the red pines. As the trees grow larger, so do the size of the pine cones. All 3 trees look fantastic. I added myself into one of the pics just to give you scale on how tall they are getting. I’m 5′ 10″. I drew a line in 2 of the pics to show you were I stand up against the height of the tree.
Here is one with all 3 trees, with #3 closest.

All 3 ginkgo trees are still alive. Since putting the cages around them none have been nibbled by the deer. Maybe they can start thriving more now? Their root systems must be tremendous!
Another tree has fallen across what used to be a path.

This is the time of the year when the indoor grapefruit trees grow new leaves.

so cool Lisa :-) enjoy all that nature offers!

The pinecones…as a kid I had a love for them. We are surrounded by Pine trees here. I would save the things…drove my mom nuts. Love the pics Lisa…

:) How neat you saved pine cones. I made a wreathe out of one a few years back.

Nice pics! We had a beautiful day here in central NJ as well: sunny with blue sky and a high of 58! For tomorrow they forecast overcast skies but also mild. While snow we had past occasions with snow episodes in March, I’m hoping spring will be here soon! :-)

It does look cold, but that blue sky is lovely. I hope the deer let your trees live. And the grapefruit tree leaves are so vividly green!!!

I have tomato cages around them now, which seems to work. And yes, it’s amazing how beautiful they are when they first come out.

Your grapefruit trees look great! My lemon trees finally succumbed to the mealy bugs last year, but younger daughter planted some seeds and gave me a small one that’s about a foot tall now. So far so good! (K)

The clear blue sky makes it seem like a sunny day. Looks can be deceiving.

Thanks for noticing, Jude. All of the trees were planted from seeds. The wind off of Lake Michigan has made 2 of them go sideways, but red pine don’t have that center trunk growing straight up habit anyway.

Very cool when we can see our efforts not go in vain.
Wonderful shots and that grapefruit! Love the leaves.

Dale, maybe that’s why I love indoor and outdoor gardening. You can see things changing before your eyes. The grapefruit trees are beautiful but they are full-sized trees and are running out of space. Not sure what to do with them :(

Yes, I can see that. It’s why I walk on the same paths over and over again. I see all the changes with the seasons.
So… Maybe you have to do like the Italians do in Montreal, Come fall, they bury their fig trees for the winter ;-)

Dale, I’ve read about that technique before. Thanks for the reminder. I may just try it!

I imagine some of these trees can grow pretty large. To think someone thought of it!!
