spring mystery

catkins,
how do you purr,
make your fur, silky-soft
red, a firework magnet,
a spring vortex,
pull in?

through its absence,
first cherry blossoms rest,
graceful white petals, cupped

Are catkins a kind of rosebush?

Catkins are what develop on shrubs/trees in the willow family and I’ve seen something similar on cottonwood trees. Sorry that’s all I know. They look like fuzzy caterpillars and I think it is part of a mechanism for pollination?

Beautiful spring poems and photos, Li. I like how you worked with this form so that they words flow and question.

BTW, have you seen the movie, Perfect Days? We saw it last weekend, and it’s a Zen-like movie (if that’a thing) set in Tokyo about a man who cleans public toilets and who loves music, books, and nature.

You’re welcome, Li. I think it was Japan’s entry for the Oscars, and it was nominated for lots of awards. I believe the main actor won one at Cannes. A Wim Wenders film.
