dVerse — Q199 — Every Day is Friday

resized sunning turtles 20240413_120044

Every Day is Friday

For awhile Fridays
meant something to me:
–school week’s end
–date night
–party night
–work week end;
Then things changed to:
–graduated
–married
–divorced
–four-day work weeks;
Now:
–retired
–every day is Friday.

De Jackson aka WhimsyGizmo is today’s host of dVerse’ Quadrille Monday. De would like us to write a quadrille (44 words total, not counting title) using the word Friday.

    Your poem resonates with me, Lisa, and, if my husband wasn’t still working part time and my daughter wasn’t available at weekends, every day would feel like Friday.

    I was just remembering during the shutdown during the pandemic, thinking, What day is it? Whatsday, Blurrsday, Friday? ;)

    I do envy your retirement, but since I work from home and make my own schedule, I can’t envy it too much.

      Yes, Covid was good for taking the gloves off, wasn’t it.

      My son works from home, which has allowed him to fully co-parent his daughter from conception to now, which is a priceless perk. At the same time, the lines begin to blur between home and work environments, and he ends up working way more than he should for a faceless corporation. Not sure what your home-based job is, but it sounds like you find a way to keep them separate.

    Another definition of ‘retired’ = tired again!

    I do think it we have earned our retirement!! :D

    1. Lisa or Li's avatar msjadeli says:

      lol on tired again! What most don’t realize is that retirees often work harder and are busier than they were when they were “working.” Can I get an amen?! :)

        I know many folks even older than me who love to ‘work’ – Don’t know if they have to or want to. Me… I’m very happy doing what I want when. I saw a guy at an welcome station at the Doc’s office – he was talking to another woman – said he was 92 and had several ‘jobs’. I do know that when some folks stop… and they can’t figure out what to do… their days …as they say …are numbered.

        Amen! Heck I do cardio a few times a week, was bowling in a senior leauge once a week, and am trying to keep up with my blog (not including making dinner 4-5 times a week, and house stuff. ;)

                Did I mention that some of the celery I put out last year from a ‘cutting’ that rooted from the bottom came up on its own. I added another I started about a month ago along with some romanine and bib outside…
                Might not get to work outside the next two days… more rain.

                      Jules, per the seed saving seminar I recently took, hybrids don’t breed true. That said heritage seeds don’t have to be old, you can start your own heritage seeds, but not from hybrids. Each season pick the most vigorous plants and best tasting produce and save those seeds.

                      Ah… If I only had space enough… would I really want a big garden. I think I’d like a green house – then I could grow all year long. We were driving through some streets we don’t normally travel near the city… I spied a huge glass house – could have been a green house or maybe a pool house? Yes it was an old large home…. I’m surprised there wasn’t more privacy fencing! :D

      I agree with you about the transitions, Di. I had to “pay” for that one day a week with accrued vacation time, so it wasn’t free. Our workplace also had a standard 4-day work week people could choose, but it meant working 10 hours each of those days. I tried it and it was too difficult to do so I went the other way. Yes on the Cure!!!!

        When I was freelancing I worked seven days a week, but my children’s schedules kept me on the calendar. I still do basically the same work–just for me, not to someone else’s specs–except I don’t get paid. I like having that freedom.
