dVerse MTB Pantoum (2nd) Ode to Earth Day 2024

Ode to Earth Day 2024

When winter’s terminal quiescence
resurrects into spring, an insistence
in tiptoes of leaf, blade, and sprout,
colors creep in from waking corners.

Resurrected into spring, an insistence calls
beaks, close-branched to distant ocean lands;
colors wing from waking corners to join,
rustle, sing, court, nest, in celebration.

Chick beaks from branch, box, island nests
among swirling color; pollen wafts in sun,
hustles honeybees, jubilant, pockets full.
Popcorn clouds in a too blue, noon sky

swirling colored blossoms; pollen wafts in sun.
Backs, sweat-drenched shirts; shovel, plant
under popcorn clouds in a too blue, noon sky,
Gaia’s day with two dozen deep-earth saplings.

Backs, sweat-drenched shirts; shovel, plant;
soil breath, blossoms, birdsong merge, sanctify
Gaia’s day with field of deep-earth saplings;
heady awakening of every living thing.

Soil breath, blossoms, birdsong merge, sanctify
in riot of leaf, blade, and sprout;
heady awakening of every living thing
ends winter’s terminal quiescence.

Pantoum form

top image is my larch tree, just starting to leaf out

I would like to dedicate this poem to Dwight Roth and his brother in-law.  Read why here.

A second pantoum, this one unrhyming, for Merril’s dVerse MTB prompt. The prompt expired 30 minutes ago, but I’ll put the link in the comments section.

  1. I love how many layers there are to the image of the tree. Feels like it’s infinite.

      It is a beautiful tree, Gia. When I bought it it had been shaped to look like the curves of a dragon and it is holding that shape. It must like where it is planted as it is thriving there <3

    This is a perfect poem for Earth Day. Planting trees is always a hopeful thing. We trust these trees will grow and flourish.

      Frost!?!? I always think of you guys having much warmer weather than here. It’s been cooler here but nowhere near frost for awhile.

  10. I’m so ready for spring to arrive for good. Thus far, the weather has been uneven in my neck of the woods. One day it’s lovely with mild temperatures, the next day we’re back to chilly.

    Right now it’s lovely with sun and mostly blue sky. But in typical fashion, temperatures are forecast to drop to the high ‘30s tonight.

    Oh, I well, I guess I take it one moment at a time. Soon we’ll probably complain about unbearable heat!😆

    Happy Earth Day! 🌎

      Exactly about the unbearable heat coming. All we can do is what you said: one moment at a time.
