dVerse — Q200 — ablaze

ablaze

Spring in full sway,
when dandelions
peep low to call in
drowsy pollinators.

Twenty nine blazes,
scatter-shots grass
bright with yellow
on green flag.

Unfurled spirit,
nature’s patriot
foundation, under
scant pear blossoms.

Pale demure ruffles
tiptoe branches
where robin, dove,
and chickadee pause.

Michelle (aka Mish) is today’s host of dVerse’ Quadrille Monday. Mish would like us to write a 44-word poem sans title using the word blaze.

We both went with spring, Lisa, and I love the flashes of colour in your quadrille: the peeping dandelions and drowsy pollinators.

Aww you’ve given us so much of Spring’s beauty condensed into this quadrille. I love the thought of those yellow beauties beckoning the bees. Sweet!

Beautiful ode to spring – to nature….these words most especially:
    “where robin, dove,
and chickadee pause.” are the details that make it so.

Nicely done, Lisa. Dandelions… weeds or flowers… it is all in the eye of the beholder!

Exactly, Dwight. The lengths that people go to to get rid of them is both amusing — and dangerous (i.e. roundup.) Dandelion wine is all I need to know to know that they are not weeds ;)

  14. Spring in full sway – I like it. Thus far, the season has been uneven in my neck of the woods. With a high of 87, it felt more like summer today. Tomorrow, we’re back to spring with a forecast high of 60. On Thursday, supposedly, we’re up again to 81. Thus far, the only constant of this Jersey spring seems to be change! :-)

Wow, Christian, your temps have been high! It’s been rainy here and around 60, which is ok. Really greening up around here.

Well, did the pollinators come, and did they work? Pretty dandelions (nice in your picture also) shouldn’t grow old and white. Only good thing is that the kids like to blow the pollen away. Good for the kids and for the plants.

I saw a few pollinators but no honeybees. A bumblebee and a butterfly were really the one ones. You’re right, why do they have to go old and white? Yes, kids — and some adults too! — like them :)

  25. This is really lovely, Lisa! It was totally humming with harmonious chords throughout.

(Also a good poem to read on a day when I didn’t want to cut my lawn and thereby decapitate all of the beautiful dandelions, lol.)

Nicole, I was noticing how long my grass has been getting and my mind wandered to the lawn mower. Then I remembered my personal policy: don’t mow until the dandelions are done :)

      1. Unfortunately our lawn mower is low quality and can’t handle super long grass. But I had a good reason to procrastinate: helping my friend with wedding preparations, and getting my own bridesmaid stuff ready to go for tomorrow.
