dVerse — MTB — Cloud Fish revisited

modified cloudfish image

Memories like floating on puffs
in cortico-limbic fashion;
cloud dandelions, blown in huff,
soar and dive to feel-triggered whims
to tumble, jumbled in the scuff.
Exhausted, yet they rise again
to disperse, scattered to the rough.
Mere specks with their sails unfastened,
return to cosmic hieroglyphs.

    There is so much movement I your poem, Lisa, and I especially love:

    ‘cloud dandelions, blown in huff,
    soar and dive to feel-triggered whims
    to tumble, jumbled in the scuff.’

    Great use of verbs and sounds!

    I’d be hard-put to find a more original and effective description of memory, Lisa. The opening lines —

    Memories like floating on puffs
    in cortico-limbic fashion;
    cloud dandelions

    — weave us into the metaphor so naturally we’re hardly aware of the words, just the feeling. Beautifully, brilliantly crafted.

  3. I love those lines Dora mentioned as well, especially for the cortico-limbic reference.

    And “mere specks with their sails unfastened,
    return to cosmic hieroglyphs.”

      Thanks, Melissa. I was watching an indigo bunting shearing off the sails of dandelion puffs to eat the seeds the other day, which gave me fodder for the poem.

    Cosmic hieroglyphs–memories, dreams, wind-blown seeds–a universal yet untranslatable language. (K)
