dark reigns right
when gleam has been too bright for too long,
and, seeped with sight, tired eyes wear out;
as dusk begins to fall, relief begins to bloom,
until harsh of orange sunset flees the room;
where dark reigns right in vision’s dear gloom

Punam is today’s host for dVerse’ Quadrille Monday. Punam wants us to write a quadrille form poem (44 words not including the title) using the word darkness.

Wonderful poem Lisa :D Well done!

Deliciously dark and I love that creeping eyeball, Lisa! These lines stand out:
‘…seeped with sight, tired eyes wear out’
and
‘…harsh of orange sunset flees the room’.

awesome poem Lisa, those eyes are made into jewellery to ward off evil in some countries :)

That is a creepy eyeball…that dry eye feeling when eyes wear out from bright light is the worst, as is the insomnia it sometimes brings. Delightfully quirky poem!

Thanks, Di. The pollen is really wreaking havoc on my eyes, and screen time makes it even worse.

I hope they feel better soon and you get some relief from allergies. When I worked full time in front of a screen under fluorescent light it was dreadful.

Oh, jeez, sorry. Computer screens definitely can be rough on your eyes. I think I can relate!

All things in moderation, which is something I have yet to learn when it comes to screen time and just reading in general. The eyes take a terrible punishment.

Everything in moderation except music!😀 Nah, you’re right, the concept should also apply to music, at least every now and then!😆

:) Christian, I agree. Music is the exception.

It didn’t feel creepy to me but as an almost ode to night for the relief from the strain of bright. Of course, maybe I’m just a night owl. I like your poem.

Debi, that’s what I was going for. Maybe I should have chosen a weeping bloodshot eye graphic? :)

Your poem spoke to my eyes, that get tired at day’s end if reading etc. My eyes also like it when the lights go out and my night vision really isn’t so bad for just getting around.

My eyesight is worsening. I may have to break down and buy glasses. Our eyes, like our feet, are often taken for granted, but what would we be without the use of them?

Aw, get the glasses, it’s good to see, even with help.

That’s quite the visual representation for “tired eyes wear out”! But it works with the dark mystique of the poem.
