Note:  I kind of cheated.  The flower pics were all taken yesterday at fmg.  The sky pics were taken here at my house today.  I mowed the lawn and can attest that it is a bee-you-tea-full day out there!

kimo series

kigo used:  blooming iris, dogwood, azalea; Memorial Day (I saw several older folks who looked like they could have been Veterans walking the grounds,) cloud peaks.

I tried an experiment with the kimo series, using a repeat 3rd line, shifting only by direction.  Let me know if you think it works (or doesn’t work.)

Colleen Chesebro is the host of TankaTuesday.   Colleen says:
🪻 This week, let’s do something different. Using the kigo words from last week’s post HERE, or from the summer (Northern Hemisphere) or winter (Southern Hemisphere) categories from the 500 Kigo Words, write one or a series of kimo poems. 🪻

I’d rather come clean and dispell the implication that they were all taken on the same day than live with the guilt of deception. Yeah, I know it’s silly with such a small matter, but it is what it is. Thanks so much, Dale.

Thanks, Gia. Going to Meijer Gardens is like visiting Eden. Always lots in bloom. Even in winter they have indoor greenhouse areas with blooms.

Lisa, I love the way you wove together the directions, flora and their qualities, and the feelings evoked by them. Beautiful! My sweety and I have never seen variegated leaves on iris… they are lovely, probably not zoned for our climate, she says (and adds we’re zone 3, some say 3a). We have beautiful irises coming up now but we have to be deliberate about going to look at them as they are on the far side of our home we don’t necessarily tend to very often.

    1. Lisa or Li's avatar msjadeli says:

Steve, it’s the first time I ever saw them also. I definitely want to find some for the yard. Not sure what the zone is here. I usually look it up when I’m ordering something. That’s too bad your irises are out of sight for you. Thank you on the poems. I wondered if the format would work.

      1. Steve's avatar Steve says:

You’re welcome. The format was spot-on. Yeah with the irises we just have to be more deliberate… well, more me, as my sweety is out working in the garden a lot in the summer. That’s her sacred place.

While my one iris bloomed pink and purple the other hasn’t bloomed at all. Perhaps next year.

I also attempted to transplant a wild grape plant that was growing by my street front rural mailbox. I made a trellis out of bamboo sticks… It is kind of droopy, but there was a large bit of root so I hope it survives. I also have some wild grape in two other places… so we’ll see.

The old house in the neighborhood had a grape arbor, but the new owner took it down. There is another house though that appears to have wild grape growing on a sort of guardrail wooden fence. I suspect the wild grape plants I have were birdie gifted :)

    Lovely photos and verses.

The wild grape has gone wild here, along with the blackberries. I never see many full sized grapes on these vines, but the blackberries may have a bumper crop. Hoping yours “takes” after transplanting. Would love to have a giant archway/trellis but would plant wisteria on it.

I have an archway with some small white flower (Clematis) on it (the flowers haven’t bloomed yet)… this is now the third arch… :)

Colleen, thank you! Still trying to get the hang of how much “humanity” to inject into some of the poems.

      1. I think you should add as much humanity as you want. 💗
