Badger’s Hexastich form

kigo: rain, cool, singing treefrog

First pic taken in my carport yesterday; the other 2 at The Highlands, a nature preserve that used to be a golf course.

What great photos! and thanks for reminding me about the Badger’s Hexastich. The frog one made me smile.

Are you making postcards for POPO this year? I’m working on it, I think I’ll get enough done. (K)

Kerfe, I’ve reached an impasse with the collage work. Still cleansing the palate. Will probably buy them if inspiration doesn’t strike soon. That’s fantastic you’re working on them and think you’ll have enough done. Thanks on the pics. They were all surprises to all of us and the grandbaby was thrilled with the groundhog.

Maybe we’ll be on the same list this year. Although I’ll send you a postcard even if not.

These were really nice, Lisa. The pictures and words- what a great team they made. I can’t say which one I liked best. I liked the image and the clever verse behind each photo – the moth ‘camouflaged’ hiding from predators, the groundhog ‘preserved’ in that green habitat and the tree frog ‘invisible only to himself’.

I know! He was very relaxed when we first showed up but he got on alert when we didn’t walk right by.

Thanks, Colleen. I wondered at his robust condition also lol. Since he’s protected there in the preserve, he may get snacks beyond what he can forage? Be interesting to find out. In either case, he is king of his space :) With the frog, normally they perch high in the trees and hidden by leaves, but this little guy was about my face high. My DIL heard him and started chirping back to him and he was quite pleased — until he realized she wasn’t a lady frog lmao. He stayed put though so we could get his pic.

      1. LOL! So funny about the frog. I’ve not seen any here in EL the trees. I might not be able to spot them. We have a ground hog who has been wandering around the neighborhood. He’s very well fed too. At least the skunks seem to have moved on. I love your photo poetry.

Colleen usually they are unseen because they usually are high up in the trees. I remember when I first moved out here I kept hearing them but thought they were squirrels. Thanks so much. I love using photos from here to inspire my poems.

          1. I’ll have to look for the tree frogs. We didn’t have them in Wisconsin when I was growing up. Little buggers are hiding! LOL!

I think it was last year I had a moth shelter and build a cocoon in the side slat of my raised garden. I kept waiting for it open… and then one day all that was left was the shell :) Fun verses.

Cool, Jules. I don’t particularly like moths and had a phobia of them for a long time. Now if they keep their distance I’m ok with them, but if they get close I still freak out. I know they are like night time butterflies but my limbic brain categorizes them very differently. Glad you are in the “moth’s corner,” Jules.

Not all moths are just at night… some are very pretty too. Like the giant butterfly that is bigger than the spread of human hands. Or the luna moth… but there are things I don’t like too… so we adjust.
