“There is something about the summer /
That makes me moody”
– “Summer Mood,” Best Coast
Theater of Summer Storm
Grumble, timpani preamble. Afterwards, listen. There.
Wind rustles dust-dulled leaves; skin-tickling mist is
blessed, petrichor aura, portends of something
that needs lightning’s stage. Something about
to burst forth; wringing clouds’ torrents upon the
brick ground and drooping stems of summer.
Droplets, en masse backslashes, drench each that
sucks and stores life to carry on. Summer storm makes
birds chirp, worms wriggle silent thanks. Me?
I dwell in a happy place, far from parched of moody.
Kigo word: summer

Colleen Chesebro is the host of TankaTuesday. Colleen says to choose one of the given song lyrics about summer and write a syllabic poem and consider summer to be the kigo.

This is wonderful. I love your Golden Shovel quote

Yes, I haven’t managed to write this week. My aunt was in Intensive Care in Hospital until yesterday and I’ve been visiting and doing all the necessary. She seems to have turned the corner so things are better now.

Robbie, sorry your aunt is in ICU but blessed she’s turned the corner. I’m sure your being there for her makes a big difference. Give her a hug for me will you?

I am very happy she is doing better. She was very ill and became very frightened as she was so vulnerable. I needed to be there from an emotional support POV. Thanks for your kindness.

This is beautiful, Lisa. A warm feel of summer and a wonderful accompaniment with the image.

Steve, thanks. I looked for awhile before finding the right image to go with the poem.

Unless I’m at an outdoor concert, I happily take rain, so we don’t need to water our plants and a get free water top-up of the pool. I can do without storms. Given we have tens of high trees around our house, I always get antsy about falling branches or even worse.

I understand where you’re coming from, Christian on all of it. What was discouraging was seeing the number of big old trees toppled over, roots and all. And so many big ones with limbs snapped off. I drove through what looked like the path of a tornado even though the news said nothing about it that I saw. So many rural people lost trees.

It seems like many things increasingly are out of whack and extreme these days, including Mother Nature!

How beautiful your golden shovel poem turned out. I think many of us connected to the ‘moodiness of summer.’ LOL! 😂

I just finished reading linked up poems and see what you mean. A nice variety of themes in there also.

Thanks, K. Her attitude means everything. These circumstances would, and have, broken many others.
