lotus stem topples like tree
translucence rests on water
bridge between heaven and earth
dragonfly drowses

joe pye and bee balm arise,
fragrantly mesmerizing

red hot sun plays hide and seek
after surprise thunderstorm
glimpse grandfather behind pine
coolly run away

kigo used: dragonfly drowses, full blossoming wildflowers, hot red sun, surprise thunderstorm

Dodoitsu form described as:
The dodoitsu comes from the old agricultural roots of the Gombei, the people of Japan’s back-country that is sometimes performed as a folk song. Most dodoitsu poetry focuses on love, humor, or the unexpected, though there are many dodoitsu poems that also look at nature and beauty.

2 photos were taken yesterday at fmg. The joe pye was taken out in the back field. The red hot sun was taken while driving home (shhhh don’t tell anyone) from fmg. The sun was a very strange color that changed over the course of the drive.

Any rhyming is unintentional.

Colleen Chesebro is the host of TankaTuesday.  Colleen wants us to write syllabic poetry using seasonal kigo.

Did you see that spot of orange next to the tree? Maybe it was a mirage of “poetic heat exhaustion” ;)

Balroop, with the form guidelines, once you get your concept, it’s fun to write. Hoping you try it. Thank you for the kind words <3

  9. Fabulous photos, Lisa. I love your poetry and how you incorporate the kigo words into the world around you! Joe Pye Weed and bee balm are some of my favorites! That photo of the sun reflection and the pine trees is so cool. It has a mystical look to it! And I love lotus! I have a lotus tattoo. 🪷

Colleen, thanks very much. I appreciate your kindness and support. The photo does have a certain look to it. I was in motion and trying to capture the whole sun but… Awesome on the lotus tattoo!

      1. I wonder if the smoke from the fires in Canada had an effect on your photo by making the sun so red. I love the way the photo turned out. 🪷
