The Coming of Autumn

the coming of autumn is certain
it hints with soft wind in grasses
stone lantern flickers at dusk

tomatoes multiply on vines
still green, but growing larger
the coming of autumn is certain

afternoon stroll through the garden
neon white clouds in vivid blue
it hints with soft wind in grasses

scent of humus on the path home
wishing I’d brought a jacket
stone lantern flickers at dusk

kigo used: the coming of autumn, wind in grasses, stone lantern

cascade form

C4Y2, happy you like the poem, and me too on autumn! Shut in the house while it’s boiling hot outside has grown real old.

  3. Hi Lisa, is it already cool enough for a jacket.

Robbie, it was dark when I got home from the gardens last night. There was a definite coolness to the air (low 60s F.) Not really enough for a jacket but I used poetic license ;)

Balroop, it wasn’t until yesterday that I felt it. Hope summer begins to budge for you soon.

  5. It might take another week or so to start seeing the signs of Autumn, but I am so ready. The temperatures are just right this week. The spiderwebs are back on the grass… that’s a sign of autumn! I hope the humidity are gone. I enjoyed your cascade form, Lisa. Great photo, too!

Me too. I went back to GR this afternoon and took a long bike ride with younger son and granddaughter. Perfect day for a ride. I’m ready now too for fall.

I remember you mentioning the smoke from the tobacco barns? Would love to smell that sometime. I’m sure I’d want a cigarette :)

All beautiful. This year is the earliest I’ve ever noticed a certain kind of air that shows up in late summer to remind us of autumn; was late July.
