Gaia gets sicker with imbalance:
storms, floods, and fires spew.
Polar ice caps melt.

Neither of the two choices (underground or under water) sound particularly attractive to me. I just hope mankind can somehow come to an agreement how to save our planet, though I can’t say I’m optimistic. There are way too many selfish people who only care about their short-term gain, not the generations that come after them.
