POPO2024 Day 13

13

Two days after the big rain,
I walked to the mailbox.
I spied a small, very dry,
lost toad in the middle of
the road. Early enough for dew
to still speckle tall grass
along the ditch, I nabbed
her and walked her back.
Opening my palm, mid-stoop,
she leapt and landed
in wet. One less suffering
creature in the world. A
saved toad as well.

  2. So cute Lisa! We have to help our little creatures. I do this all the time when I get geckos in my house. They can be too quick for me sometimes but I like to at least try to help them back outside otherwise they’ll die 🥰

Happy you are a rescuer too, Christine. Is there such a thing as a live gecko trap (aside from your hands)?

    2. The easiest way for me is to throw a soft cloth over it, scoop it up gently and let it go outside. Otherwise you’re lucky if you can grab its tail but I am frightened that hurts them.😕

        1. Ha! I like that ☺️They are such harmless little things. Rumor has it they eat mosquitos but I don’t think the American gecko does. Maybe in a jungle somewhere.

Absolutely, on night trips when I was working across communities, I rescued many owls hypnotised by headlights sitting on the road (among others)

Oh no on the owls. Deer get that hypnosis here. Do you lift them with a towel and put them in a tree?

Glyn, thank you. I save critters when I can. When we get a heavy rain, the worms are crawling on the driveway and then it’s a mass rescue :)

Delighted to hear that, Miriam. My little granddaughter has a rescuer nature as well. I hope yours has a chance to rescue a critter in need (she probably already has!)
