Friday Favorite Feature 47 — Carter Vintage Guitars YouTube Channel

Happy Friday Everyone!  This one’s going to be short and sweet.  Not sure what I was surfing for but I came across this YT channel and now I’m hooked.  Carter Vintage Guitars has a set-up kinda sorta like Little Desk Concerts, yet it is distinctly different.  It focuses on vintage guitars for sale in the shop and has talented musicians come in and play them.  The backdrop is the guitars.

The first one I saw was Trey Hensley, who I talked about as a sit-in on Taj Mahal’s recent live album.  Taj has his longstanding quartet (minus the recent passing of Kester) and Trey sat in with guitar and vocals along with Rob Ickes, a dobro player.  Anyway…  Trey and a vintage guitar makes a heavenly duo.

I’ve watched several of them since then.  Some of the musicians, like Trey, are familiar to me.  Some aren’t.  Virtually every person/group has been “ahhhhh” worthy.  Here are a few videos for you to enjoy.

If you like what you’re hearing, check out the channel.

Really like that 63 Gibson…what a great sound!
There’s so much good music around…why is pop music so bland and imitative? Corporate money I guess. (K)

I love how they leave the price tags on them. Yes on the Gibson. Hopefully the music will cycle back to rock n roll.

  4. It’s-a me, again. :-)

Lisa, this YouTube channel is so good. Lots of great musicians on there, even my beloved Molly Tuttle. She’s a helluva guitarist and makes it all look so easy. Check this out:

Wow, Christian, great find with Molly Tuttle. I really like her also. She gives Billy Strings a run for his money on a guitar.

Glyn, me too. I’m guessing most of them were toddlers when they picked up a guitar and have been playing ever since. So you play the guitar?? Why didn’t I know that?

Well, I tried playing a six string guitar when I was starting in the band but it just didn’t work out. I went on to bass guitar instead.

Nice to know you are a musician. You and Max are kindred spirits. I strummed an acoustic back in the early 80s but only played for myself. I got a lot of enjoyment out of it.

I with I kept at it. Although I’d find it hard to play any guitar with Axial-Spa (AS) in all my fingers now.

  6. Nice stuff, Lisa!

David Grisman and Tony Rice did something similar with a selection of vintage mandolins and guitars on an album called “Tone Poems”. Grisman followed up with “Tone Poets”, this time featuring just two instruments (a 1922 Gibson mandolin and a 1933 Martin guitar), this time with a bunch of different musicians.

It’s a gem of a site, just like the Tiny Desk Concerts site. It’s a great idea also and good to learn others have manifested it.
