Is there anything more relaxing
when the mind starts to race
than the coo of mourning dove
in duet with a purring cat?
Two worlds, synchronized;
one moment, this moment
as I drink first cuppajoe,
windows open, looking out
on plants that have bloomed,
those about to, and the growing
number of golf ball-sized tomatoes.

Our worlds aren’t so different after all, Lisa. I have the cat and mourning dove. No tomatoes. Will guavas do?

Guava sounds good but not sure what it is beyond a fruit. Nice to know mourning doves are there also.

When I was a little girl, I’d hear them in the morning and thought they were “Morning Doves.”

They hae a nice taste but are mainly seeds so I never eat the fruit.

I think I’ve eaten dried guava maybe?

Nothing as relaxing as what you describe. Or perhaps the cooing of a baby? Enjoy the quiet. Xo

Cooing of a baby works for me. Blessings to you and yours, Selma <3

Sounds pretty idyllic, Lisa! Enjoy the day. Another hot one up here, may be one of the last this beautiful September.

This was written at the end of July (7/29) and it must have been the off cooler day ;) It’s 81 right now here which is pretty nice. Looking for sunny but cooler days ahead…

Those things calm ME down too, Li. I love both of them. Hubby can’t stand the plaintive cooing mourning doves make, lol. I have no idea why. It’s utter insanity! Beautiful poem, btw, as usual. Another thing that soothes the mind, and maybe yours too: the rustling/rushing of wind through trees….

Stacey very much appreciate your comment and glad I’m not the only one. You won’t believe this, but it is 100% true, but today at the meijer garden’s children’s library I read my granddaughter not one but TWO books on the wind and how they move leaves around in the fall. She was delighted then and I am delighted now to have you mention it (serendipity is a beautiful thing.)
