I learned yesterday that
my 3 year-old granddaughter
soon may be going to all-day
pre-school. This morning,
after sleeping on it,
I woke up crying.
A voice – god’s or my own --
said all of us belong
to the world.

Aww, a difficult time for her.

Sadje, I wrote this back on ~Aug 6. Since then the pre-school thing is on hold (thank goodness!)

Oh I see. The kids are going to play school as early as 2, and kindergarten by the time they are 3.

Paul, yes there are. I don’t want her to be out of her parents’ or my sight. She is such a precious little girl.

That is really early to go…I stayed at home til I was 6…but I get it…we started Bailey when he was 4 and I groaned about that, Different world now.

I wrote this back around Aug 6. The idea has stalled out now. I think they are seeing how much it would cost. Also, one of the granddaughter’s little friends from swim class went to day care and there were some horror stories coming out of that, so they may be reconsidering. I’m happy about it. 6 sounds about right to me. Older son was almost 6 (Dec birthday) when he started and younger son was almost 5 (Nov birthday) when he started.

We didn’t have to go to kindegarden… but they wanted to hold Bailey back in Kindegarden because he didn’t know all of his ABC’s…I told them no…he went to first and passed with flying colors.
I just want kids to be kids as long as possible…as you and I know…you don’t get that back.

My grandson just turned three and will be starting half days soon, would not surprise if he goes fulltime before he’s four. Little ones seem so much more independent and I think the social interaction is a good think. Still, my heart understands you.

I wrote about this back at the time I wrote this, around 8/6. She gets plenty of social interaction, as they are taking her out and about. She has her little circle of friends. The plan is on hold for now. I hope things go well for your grandson, Randy.

Goodness, Lisa! I can totally understand your tears. At 3 years old your granddaughter is still a baby, IMO much too young for all day school. This has to be a very difficult decision for everyone. 🫶🏼

Three is young to go to school all day. I kept Greg at home until he turned 4.

in Israel, it’s common for kids to be in all-day daycare well before they turn one…

I learned today my 2yo granddaughter (3 very soon) is going to kindergarten next year. It is only a few hours a few times a week, but it marks her transition into the world. It has come sooner than I thought. I have mixed feelings, but I cannot deny she is well and truly ready.

I think a slow transition is best.
