POPO2024 Day 42

42 1910

“Mind over matter?
If you don’t mind, it don’t matter,”
Mikey says as he eats fire-roasted
shish-kebobbed mouse on, “Alone.”
He’s doing it to win half a million
to buy services for his non-verbal
autistic young son.
I have to ask myself,
what do I get out of watching
him do it.

“Alone” is a survival TV series where 10 contestants are dropped into a remote northern wilderness with 10 items and try to survive long enough to be the last person standing. Why does anyone do stupid things? Usually one of two reasons: love or money. In this cast it was a father’s love for his son with special needs. Not sure if you ever saw the 1980s (?) movie, “Running Man” but in that futuristic movie, they had contestants “Climbing for Dollars” on a rope with doberman’s below them snapping at their heels. It is gross in so many ways :(

I’ve heard of this show but never watched it. I guess people are desperate when they think such stunts will make the money pour in.

  3. Wow, eating mouse shish-kebob sounds like a rough proposition. On the other hand, Mikey is to be commended for trying to raise funds so he can pay for services for his young son who is living with autism. Even if Mikey has health insurance, which sadly isn’t a given, it’s doubtful they would pay for many of the services his son may require.

p.s. I could say I was watching it to see Mikey win for his son, but was that why, really?

  4. There’s another show I’ve seen advertised called “Naked and Afraid”. I do not watch reality tv; it’s tough enough sometimes dealing with our own reality and this, to me, is not reality. What I don’t understand is why do the contestants have to be naked AND afraid? Can’t they just be afraid?

Never saw it but saw it advertised. I think Mikey was the turning point for me. Never again.

What an excellent commentary on our society and its obsession with degrading people instead of building them up and honouring them.
