after I broke my leg and I was in rehab PT facility the best thing every morning was the way they fixed oatmeal. It was hot just the right consistency and they would put brown sugar and cinnamon on it. Yum.

Nice to have someone prepare and serve a hot breakfast to you. I like brown sugar on it also.

I love oatmeal but in a bad way for me…butter and some sugar and it’s awesome!

I love steel cut oats hot with butter and sugar (and cinnamon.) Old fashioned also. Not a big fan of quick oatmeal.

Yes…cinnamon is great. Me either…I think I told you but a few weeks back we got into the habit of making cinnamon toast every night…we need to do that again.

I remember one night you were eating cinnamon toast :) I just made sourdough bread and had it toasted with peanut butter.

Oh yes! You told me that then. You have a good memory!

Who could forget cinnamon toast ;)

Nice word choices, Lisa. I once had oatmeal served at a culinary school’s restaurant with bananas coated in brown sugar, fired with a torch. Divine. Definitely not mindless or humdrum.

Hmm, I love oatmeal with blueberries, especially on a chilly morning.

oh Lisa, nothing humdrum about such breakfast. It’s one of my fave fixin’s. The pic alone enticing. I like the synonyms you chose. Such wonderful tanka. Thanks for participating. Blessing you.

I had never tried cold oatmeal before but gave it a try when older son suggested it. It’s delicious! Thanks much, Selma, and thanks for the great prompt <3

I love this oatmeal tanka, Lisa. You did a good job with the synonyms and the subject made me drool! YUM!
I have my oatmeal with cutup apple, cinnamon, and cranberries. I buy the cranberries in autumn and freeze them to last through the winter.

Sounds like a good combo for oatmeal. My grandparents used to buy those quaker instant oatmeal packets and some had apple and cinnamon. I’ve had oatmeal cookies with cranberries in them but not for breakfast oatmeal. Yummy.

I buy the gluten-free oats from Costco. They are so good, and the bag lasts a long time. I love cranberries (fresh and whole). I don’t care for them dried. They make them too sweet. Paired with an apple, cranberries have the best taste of tart and sweet. I think only Northern girls understand this. LOL!

Isn’t it odd, how food, especially breakfast, really reflect our moods.?

Jude, I agree. What’s funny is that I rarely eat breakfast, which means no mood ;)

I really should be better about breakfast. Sometimes I’ll make instant farina, cold cereal or yogurt with fruit. :)

Those sound tasty. There’s a 7-grain hot cereal I get from Bob’s Mill (or whatever it is called) that I like. Also a fan of (hot) cream of wheat.
