“Wind of Change” undoubtedly is a pretty catchy song that demonstrates Scorpions’ successful formula of combining hard-charging pop metal rockers with ballads. Scorpions who I understand initially were more popular outside of Germany than in their home country first entered my radar screen with 1984’s “Love At First Sting.” This album, which included rock classics like “Rock You Like a Hurricane”, “Big City Nights” and “Bad Running Boys Wild,” remains my favorite to this day. With “Still Loving You,” of course it also included a memorable popular ballad.
Christian, I figured you would know this one. Were you living in Germany when the wall came down?? I need to find the video for Roger Waters Live at the Wall. I remember it as being so good.
Yep, at this time I was still living in Germany. I wasn’t in Berlin, so like most folks, I saw images of the tumbling wall on the TV news. While I realized I was watching history unfold, it didn’t impact me emotionally as much as other Germans since my family didn’t have relatives in the former GDR.
My aunt escaped from E Germany way back when, then later met my uncle, who was stationed there, married him, and moved to the US. She lives in TX now. The video they show with the song is so powerful!
My girlfriend loves Winds of Change. I think it is a special song for her because she grew up in a post-Soviet country and it symbolises the history of change.
Well done, Lisa! Thanks for the nod. ♡🕊️
