POPO2024 Day 54

54 1923

The cosmos are going to seed.
Once invisible apples, pears, tomatoes
stop blending; gather sweetness.
Goldenrod brighten every border.
Birds hunt & peck ripe berries.
Summer has relinquished its hot
grip to cooling evenings that
stroll with big blue sturgeon moon.

Funny to think I wrote this at the end of August, but it seems so long ago when the goldenrod was in bloom.

Time is deceptive these days–or maybe it was always so.

I feel it in the air…I can smell tobacco barns smoke. I hate smoke smells from a cigarette but smoke from the barns smells so good.

This reminds me of the long, gradual passage we’ve had into autumn and the atmospheric events like the Aurora Borealis that has been so active this fall. Haven’t seen it with my eyes but through the images of others. Always reminds me of a night my sweety picked me up from an evening shift and we drove two hours in the night to a loaned cottage, bathed in the Aurora all the way there. Got there around 2 am. The door key didn’t work. We had to jimmy a window… it was a beautiful time, and quite early in our relationship.

Steve, so happy it reminded you of that night. Stuff like that can bond tighter than glue :) I haven’t seen the A.B. either except through others’ pics. recently, but way back before my 2nd son was born we took a trip north and saw them. “Bathing in the Aurora” has got to feel like magic.

I find that like music, verse or story can evoke memories of such times and do that’s an added layer of appreciation so works like this.

The AB is magic indeed. Those who witnessed it recently have seen an intensity rarely experienced due to a few coinciding natural factors.
