TT Halloween Poetry Challenge — Freedom’s Brew

Freedom’s Brew

time is come, time is now
spell to bring about
banish of darkness to enable light’s shout
plucking ingredients
falls to feathered two

time is come, time is now
Ink and Blot seek out
objects with shiny beams that twinkle just-so
recipes in their eyes
and bubbled by wise

time is come, time is now
one by one they’re gained:
down from rabbit’s nest, a black widow’s silk egg,
thorns from the yum-yum tree,
tears from a blue whale

time is come, time is now
Ink and Blot do write,
”My Queen, with these potent bits do brew to smite,
dispel foul-stenched veils, and
spritz soft on hard hearts.”

time is come, time is now
crone chants o’er cauldron
words pulled from tome long ashed but memory-honed
green mists rise at ready
five drops of her blood

time is come, time is now
orange slime vapor’ed
Ink and Blot rise, fly towards rainbow’s first dawn
crone rests on porch, sips tea
sweet and strong, freedom

This is a double double-ennead form.
First line is a refashioned line from Dr. Seuss’ book, “Marvin K. Mooney, Will you Please Go Now.”

Very good. I had a red wing black bird visit my feeder this afternoon! I like how blackbirds are wise and smart to help brew a good healing.

Jules, thanks. Very cool on the rwbb at your feeder. There were swarms of all kinds of birds flying around the yard here today. They must be migrating and stopping to eat along the way.

I saw a big bird land in the tree out back. Bigger than any before. Gone by the time I got my camera, darnit. The one who got away…

I was just looking at an article about Eagles and hawks… I couldn’t find that, but I found; “When comparing the silhouettes of eagles and hawks, the most noticeable difference is that eagles typically have much longer, straighter wings with a “boxy” appearance, while hawks have shorter, more rounded wings and a stockier body, making their silhouette appear less expansive overall; eagles are also generally larger in size than hawks, further distinguishing their silhouette.”

If it wasn’t a vulture, maybe it was an eagle?

Good tips, Jules. My eyesight is fair at best and still haven’t gotten glasses. I just could see that there was more silhouette than when hawks alight on that tree. I got up and moved to a different window with the camera and by then it was gone. I think it saw movement and left. I’ve seen both eagles and vultures around here.

“Turkey Vultures are common, large, and dark soaring birds, but they have much smaller, darker heads than Bald Eagles and they hold their wings in a pronounced V-shape when soaring. They often teeter as they soar, whereas Bald Eagles hold their wings flat like a board and are steady.” – there you go if it had a small head it may have been a vulture… An Eagle would have been very cool though!
