dVerse Q213 — A Prayer

A Prayer

Before looking outdoors
I reach for sun glasses
with which to enliven
stick webs, brown scrub,
and grey. To say it will
be a Mr. Rogers Day.
A season of now, where
we, within the all of it,
smile and say, “Howdy,
Neighbor.”

Amen.

I am today’s host of dVerse’ Quadrille Monday, back after a very enjoyable few weeks off.  Today’s prompt is to write a 44-word poem (minus title) using the word with.

A season of now, yes, but to me the sunglasses, too, enable the spirituality, that seen through these spiritual lenses the world takes on a new, more beautiful dimension.

      Lovely.

  11. Great to see you back, Lisa. Hope you enjoyed your break. While I frequently watched “Sesame Street” as a kid back in Germany, I don’t think “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” was shown on TV there. Looks like it was a lovely program. And, yes, wouldn’t it be great if more neighbors would get along well with each other?

Back in Germany, we had a tense relationship with one of our neighbors for many years. It all started when I had some friends over to celebrate my 7th or 8th birthday – can’t exactly which. We were playing soccer in our backyard when suddenly the ball went over the fence into the neighbor’s backyard. Before we knew it, the woman who lived there came out and confiscated our ball.

A few minutes later, she showed at our kitchen window with the ball and some broken flower, bitterly complaining to my mom about the damage we had caused. My mom just looked at her and laughed. Well, the neighbor didn’t take it well. This episode marked the beginning of a sour relationship. Years later, things started to change when the neighbors who didn’t have kids at the time of the terrible incident, had a daughter. Not only did the relationship improve, but my parents even became sort of became friends with the neighbors.

It’s really unfortunate how disputes with neighbors can make out lives miserable – oftentimes over the most silly things!

Christian, thanks much for the warm welcome back. You’re so right about small things spawning out of control in a hurry. How nuts for the lady to be so bent out of shape over a ball accidentally hurting one of her flowers, and she had no sense of humor did she. Think of all the wasted time being “at war” with the neighbors when they could have been friends all along.

Hope you’ve been enjoying the end of fall and preparing for winter. I’m not ready for it, but it sure has been taking its time getting here.

And, nope, I can’t say I feel ready for winter. In fact, I’m kind of in disbelief this year is almost over!
