Lycan

Her state ran red in November. Disgusted at a rancid orange stain whose followers believed was the remedy for a malady that afflicted a nation, with the blues she emigrated north to a place where winter still meant something.

Dale had given her a lead on an affordable senior complex in Montreal, not far from the river. She put her bench outside of Apartment 17 and locked her indigo bike under the stairs.

A maniac lived in the apartment above her. Thumps in the night at the full orange moon introduced her to Richard. Richard introduced her to her tribe.

I hope “her tribe” in a good way and not as a sacrifice… lol. Well, since she escaped the orange menace of the south, the orange full moon of the north can’t be good news, can it?

I think she and tribe howl and probably other things (hunt wabbit?) at the full moons. Time will tell on the northern full moon?

OK, if she is joining them in howling at the full moon, that is great.

Thanks, David. I’m thoroughly disgusted and not just by the candidates who won and the people who voted for them. I’m tired of getting backed into a corner every election season and coerced into voting for the lesser of 2 evils.

I was pretty sure “Lycan” referred to wolves, but still checked. That’s some tribe. Do they howl at the moon when it’s full? Were the weird stomping noises a dance? Did they morph into werewolves?

    Well, anyway–enjoyed this very much.

I love your questions and your imagination. It’s whatever you want it to be. Is this Linda? You are showing up as Someone but I see you liked the story and so am guessing.

Bit confused by the end – were the maniac, the stomping and the tribe all one? Either way, it sounds like she found her place

Filling in some details: the thumping sounds on a full moon induced her to go up and introduce herself to “the maniac.” It was clear by the facial hair and long canines he was of her tribe. From there she was introduced to the other lycans. I think the thumps could have been wabbits. Thanks for reading, Jen.

Colleen, this might have been a better Halloween story. There are no dogs in it. Thanks for reading and your wondering.

Me too. Not sure if you’ve seen the series, “What We Do in the Shadows” but it’s a comedy about vampires living in NYC. I kind of had it in mind for the last part of the story.

In this day and age, it’s hard to discern. Oh to find one’s tribe and a place that feels safe. Evocative story.
