Song Rewrite: No Snow (originally No Phone by Cake)

We got a little snow earlier this week, but I looked out this morning and all of it has melted.  You know how your mind can play off of things and turn them in a new way?  This morning, Cake’s song, “No Phone” became “No Snow.”  Hope you enjoy it and maybe, like a rain dance, my song will become a snow dance.

No snow No snow,
I just want a flaky blanket day
No snow no snow
Falling sticking,
Freezing like an arctic storm
Whirling white to drift on road
Frosting windows through the day
See bright crystals fly

No snow No snow
I just want a flaky blanket day
No snow No snow
No snow no snow
I just want a flaky blanket day

Shovel, snowblow, get me working on the piles
Reds my nose and gives me smiles
Now I don’t want to seem unkind
But god, it’s such a crime

No snow No snow
I just want a flaky blanket day
No snow No snow
No snow no snow
I just want a flaky blanket day
No snow no snow…

Storming piling waking it was only dreams
Look out and it’s dirt and green
Depression is grey and deep
Went back to bed to sleep

I’m still on fire, yet I still yearn frozen
Blue deep in the night
My chill contemplation still stays warm and broken
My cross-country skiing unskated and unspoken
No I don’t see any snowchains, just a few hardy bikers

No snow No snow
I just want a flaky blanket day
No snow No snow
No snow no snow
I just want a flaky blanket day
No snow no snow
No snow No snow
I just want a flaky blanket day
No snow No snow

  4. I like the snow people made of sand. I’ve done snow sculptures of people on the beach, going the other way by having snow stand in for sand. I like both versions of the song. No snow here, either – just rain.

I bet it is fun to do snow sculptures. Glad you like the song(s) and how does no snow make you feel? Global warming or a fluke?

      1. One year doesn’t provide sufficient data, but we have data on lake ice duration here dating back to the 1850s. Those data are clear evidence of warming. So, while this year is a bit flukey so far, it is also part of a trend.

  5. Ha ha, beware what you wish for, Lisa. All for a sudden you may find yourself drowning in snow! :-)

That said, so far, the season has been pretty mild in my neck of the woods. While the nights are chilly and daytime temperatures don’t exactly feel like spring either, there are no signs of snow in the current 10-day weather forecast. Of course, one has to take that with a grain of salt, since oftentimes, they don’t even get it right one day out!

I’ll keep singing the song and maybe get lucky. It’s cold enough to snow here also. So true about weathercasters.

I wonder if it is too late to get a letter to Santa, asking for snow? It is a good song and I have a hilarious story involving it but want to keep it to myself.

Oh ok! I have stories like that also… I wish we could. I remember probably around 3-4 white Christmas mornings. Not too deep but enough.

  8. White Christmas is still up in the air here. The forecast is to go above freezing tonight into tomorrow. Still cool enough that the snow could last, except now one forecast says snow tomorrow and another says rain. Rain on top of snow would not be a good thing.

It’s been really cold here which has left snow on the ground but it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow — get up to 50 by week’s end :(
