Goldy McJohn, Jerry Edmonton, John Kay, Larry Byrom, George Biondo)
Yesterday, while doing this and that, I listened to this whole playlist on Spotify.
41 songs and over 3 hours of music. All of the hits and so much more. Having them all compiled in one place. After listening to them all it is demanded that Steppenwolf be acknowledged as a GREAT band. John Kay’s voice is one of the best EVER. He’s got grit that few can equal in it. This band KNOWS HOW TO JAM. In any incarnation!
I searched for a decent review and stopped here at “Classic Rock Revisited.”
What’s your favorite Steppenwolf song?

Truly a great band, though I admit I don’t know a huge amount of their catalogue. Kay’s voice is superb.

PS: I’d say my fave by them is “Hold Your Head Up,” though I think the original by Argent is superior.

I always liked Magic Carpet Ride, although I only know their hits, to be honest. (K)

That’s a good’n for sure. The composition on it is a magic carpet ride. Towards the end of the list are two long ones, one The Monster (very timely for these times) and The Pusher (always timely).

Wow…I never knew that he recorded Drift Away and done a damn good job on it. I’ve always liked John Kay and his voice is great.

I was kind of surprised at some of the covers also. Kay’s voice and the skill of band are phenomenal. The resounding joy of the audience on some of those live tracks is also amazing. This is a band that’s truly loved by its listeners.

He really showed a range here I didn’t know he had…when I heard Drift Away I was expecting his Born to Be Wild voice…but it was controlled.

I didn’t see that one in there but I did remember Max from PowerPop did a post on it.
It’s a kickass tune and can see why it’s your favorite.

Good choice, Glyn. There is so much freedom in it! Isn’t it in Easy Rider?

Yes, it is Easy Rider. The soundtrack is pretty good throughout the movie.

While I’m well aware of Steppenwolf, sadly, I can only name a handful of their songs. Based on that, I have to go with what I guess is an obvious choice: Get your motor runnin’/head out on the highway… :-)

Your playlist led off with my favorite — Screamin Night Hog. I do love me some Steppenwolf. It’s a biker’s go-to !!!! :-) :-)

Yes, I love that one too. You are a biker, or used to be, yes? Seems I remember you are/were.

Yes. I only stopped riding 3 years ago when I got sick. I still have two motorcycles in my garage. Makes me sad, but I really can’t ride, anymore.

:( You can still get your motor running in other ways though.
