To My Bluebird Lover
Hearken now to bluebirds on the wing
Memory of summer’s love in mirth
Season twinkled bright and knew no dearth
From each sigh, each stroke, each peak we’d wring
Sacred wine we’d sipped from gifts of earth
Hearken now to bluebirds on the wing
Memory of summer love in mirth
Know that I will visit you in Spring
Rest you now on sunny hill’s vineyard
As I doze, bundled close to hearth
Hearkened back to bluebirds on the wing
Memory of summer love in mirth
Season twinkled bright and knew no dearth
I have to give a nod to a story I read this morning as part of the inspiration for this poem. The story, “The Blue Thing,” is from a newly published book by Anne E.G. Nydam, called, _Bitter-Sweetness & Light: A Collection of Stories, Poems, & Art_. I’ve been a follower of Anne’s blog for a few years and am always amazed at her creativity and talent.
Grace is today’s host of dVerse’ Meeting the Bar/Form. Grace wants us to write a Madrigal form poem, which is described as:
*Content: Often includes a theme of love
Structure of an English madrigal:
*Usually written in iambic pentameter.
*Comprised of three stanzas: a tercet, quatrain, and sestet.
*All three of the lines in the opening tercet are refrains.

A touch of soft, sweet shakespearan voice this Li, though it also had me humming “Bluebird” by Mc Cartney….very romantic, lovely..
