Lucius is an American four-piece indie pop band. The group was founded in 2007 by lead vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, joined by drummer Dan Molad, guitarist Peter Lalish, and, formerly, multi-instrumentalist Andrew Burri. Originating in Brooklyn, the band relocated to Los Angeles in 2015.
They have released three studio albums with Mom + Pop Music, including their most recent, Second Nature, in April 2022. However… they’ve got a new album coming out in May. The single I’m sharing, which I randomly came across on the radio in the car, is what put them on my radar.
Their music has received critical acclaim from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR and The Village Voice. Paste named them as one of the best live acts in 2015. Wolfe and Laessig have also contributed vocals for artists such as Roger Waters, Harry Styles, Jeff Tweedy, Jackson Browne, John Legend, Mavis Staples, John Prine, Sheryl Crow, Grace Potter, Goose, The War on Drugs, Brandi Carlile, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Brandy Clark, and Joni Mitchell.
Why haven’t I heard of this group before?? This song knocks my socks off!

Gold Rush
[Verse 1]
Heart of gold, heart in a cast
Happy times, times when we're sad
I'll never leave, I'll never leave
Strong in mind, weak in the knees
Easy go, so hard to please
I'll never leave, I'll never leave (Gold rush, gold rush)
[Verse 2]
No such luck, too much to prove
So much love, too much to lose
I'll never leave, I'll never leave
Ask me why, leave me alone
Push and pull, feels right at home
I'll never leave, I'll never leave
I'll never leave, I'll never leave (Gold, gold, gold rush, gold rush)
[Chorus]
Sugar rushes, honey, it's high and low, oh
You've got something sweeter than liquid gold (Gold rush, gold rush)
[Verse 3]
'Til the end, right from the start
Act your age, stay young at heart
I'll never leave, I'll never leave
You and me paving the way
Dreams come true, or the mundane
I wanna see, I wanna see
I'll never leave, I'll never leave
[Chorus]
Sugar rushes, honey, it's high and low, oh
You've got something sweeter than liquid gold, gold, oh
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus]
Sugar rushes, honey, it's high and low, oh
You've got something sweeter than liquid gold, hey
Sugar rushes, honey, it's high and low, oh
You've got something sweeter than liquid gold (Sweeter than liquid gold)
[Outro]
(Gold rush, gold rush, gold rush, gold rush)
Songwriters: Jess Wolfe, Holly Laessig, Dan Molad

Never heard of them…but I like it! What popped in my head at the beginning intro was Led Zeppelin…I don’t know why but that intro has that feel…Great sounding song Lisa.

Dale, I know what you mean about the album cover. A little intense. Glad you like the tune. I’ve been listening to a spotify playlist of their music this afternoon. A mixed bag, but mostly good.

Well, I won’t touch that one but I will say that I am ever greatful to the musicians who keep on creating and putting their stuff out there.
Speaking of music, I saw a wonderful movie last night. It’s French, called “En Fenfare” or “The Marching Band” in English. If ever you get a chance to watch it. Beautiful story.

I just went to imdb to look at it. Looks good (and sad.) Will look for it on DVD or streaming.

It’s sad, funny, poignant, musical. I just saw it in the movie theatre so it might take a little while. 😊

I like their sound. I love it how we discover new music just randomly, often when we need it the most.

They’re great aren’t they. The song is my current ear worm (no relation to RFK Jr’s.) Yes the serendipity of music.
