Here we are at the first (week) of April, all fools for one thing or another. Like Nancy said, there are a lot of songs out there with April in songs or song titles. While scanning for an artist I like, when I saw Johnny Flynn, screeched to a halt. The first time he came to my attention was in the 2017 movie, “Beast.” I thought he did a hell of a good job in that role as a disturbed young man.

I gave him no more thought until a fellow blogger mentioned his writing and performing the theme song to the excellent 2014 series, “The Detectorists.” I was already taken in by his acting, but after hearing it at the beginning of each episode of the series I just had to find and watch, I was also a big fan of his songwriting and performing skills.

The next thing I saw Johnny in was in 2020’s, “Stardust,” where he played David Bowie that chronicled when he first came to the US to tour and break through. I loved the road trip he took with Marc Maron as his manager/chauffeur.

Again, I left dear Johnny, until I heard he was so-starring in 2024’s Netflix movie, “Ripley.” He played his part like a pro, and why the film wasn’t nominated for an Academy Award is a real mystery, especially after seeing what/who did get nominated (and won!)

Now I must watch, “Song One,” a 2014 movie Johnny is in, playing opposite Anne Hathaway. In April” is on the film’s soundtrack. Per wikipedia, the soundtrack, released by Lakeshore Records on 1/13/15, contained original scores written by Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice of the indie rock duo Jenny & Johnny. Johnny both stars in the movie and performs the song in the movie.

BONUS:  Talk about Serendipity!  I’ve been listening to Johnny Flynn’s spotify playlist tonight and came across one he wrote that has April in it.  I forgot about this movie!  Talk about a man with so many talents to go along with his dashing good looks!

find the word April in the title or in the lyrics of a song.

He’s very talented and his music is fresh but still has threads tied to Celtic music. Hell of an actor also! Glad to introduce him to you.

‘The Detectorists’ was indeed a wonderful series, very charming. I don’t know of Flynn though I enjoyed his music in the series.

Well if you want to get to know him take a look at some of those movies/series I mentioned. I wonder if that radio program you listen to has any of his music? I really loved The Detectorists, such a quirky, human-hearted show.

I searched the playlists archived on RaveandRoll.com but didn’t see any entries at least in the last three years.

Yes, the show was just as you say, Lisa. So beautiful.
